(5:47 Summary Video) “Leveraging AI Without Losing Human Connection and Interaction”

In this 5:47 video, Julian Kulkarni discusses the dual role of AI in marketing and trust-building. He praises AI’s ability to automate tasks and generate insights at scale. Julian warns that AI must free up time for genuine human interaction.

AI is transforming marketing by improving efficiency, enhancing insights, and reducing manual effort. But for Julian Kulkarni, Former SVP and CMO at Reapit, CEO at Tangible Consulting, and Senior Adviser at Accel-KKR, the real opportunity lies in what organizations do with the time AI frees up. Julian urges leaders to shift that saved time toward meaningful conversations, deeper customer understanding, and direct engagement.

Julian views AI as a powerful and transformative tool for marketers, but emphasizes that it should enhance, rather than replace, human interaction. He cautions that companies relying too heavily on data and automation risk overlooking the fundamental role of trust and human connection in building lasting relationships.

“I think AI is supercharged. There’s so much you can do. But people are still people, and it’s also something that everyone has access to, so you have to use it better than anyone else.” – Julian Kulkarni

Article: “Leveraging AI Without Losing Human Connection and Interaction”

This article is based on an interview with Julian Kulkarni, Former SVP and CMO at Reapit, CEO at Tangible Consulting, and Senior Adviser at Accel-KKR

The Role of AI in Customer Understanding

Julian views AI as a valuable tool that enhances the way marketers work, rather than as a stand-alone solution. “Marketing is one of the areas where AI can have the biggest impact,” he said. “It can take away a lot of routine tasks and help us understand the customer faster.” With better segmentation, campaign automation, and real-time data, AI increases clarity. However, Julian believes companies still need to be intentional about how they use those insights.

“Everybody has access to AI, so the differentiator is how you use it better than anyone else,” Julian said. He stresses that it’s not enough just to analyze customer data. “You can analyze the hell out of everything, but how do we make ourselves exceptional?” In his view, AI should give marketers more time to focus on listening, learning, and engaging in genuine conversations.

Turning Efficiency into Empathy

Rather than using AI to replace human interaction, Julian believes companies should use the time savings to reconnect with customers. “What are you going to do with that time?” he asked. “Maybe you could spend time out with your customers, speaking to your team, or go and work in customer support for a couple of days.” These activities, he said, bring leaders closer to the realities of their customers.

Julian encourages teams to move beyond data sets and engage in direct conversation. “Listen to everybody. Listen to what’s happening. Listen to what’s not happening,” he said. He believes real learning happens when leaders step into the customers’ world, not just observe it from behind dashboards. These firsthand insights, when combined with AI, enable better decision-making and foster stronger relationships.

Embedding Human Insight Across the Organization

Julian emphasizes that customer engagement shouldn’t be limited to sales or marketing. He has seen firsthand how involving the whole organization improves results. “We had our CFO standing at the door of a major exhibition asking questions to visitors,” Julian recalled. “At first, she didn’t want to do it, but afterward, she was quoting what she learned for months.” That shift had a lasting impact on how her department functioned.

He sees these cross-functional interactions as critical. “We got everyone to talk to our customers. Not just sales and marketing, but also finance,” he said. Julian explained that by doing this, teams developed a shared understanding of what mattered to their clients. This insight created a more unified and customer-centric culture throughout the organization.

Conclusion

Julian believes the future belongs to companies that blend technology with human interaction. “People still buy from people they trust,” he said. While AI can support and accelerate operations, it cannot replicate the trust built through conversation and direct engagement.

By leveraging AI to enhance internal workflows and free up time, leaders can reinvest in what matters most: building and nurturing relationships. “Use the time for building trust,” Julian said. “Use the time for listening.” This balanced approach will separate companies that adapt efficiently from those that build lasting, human-centered success.

ELEVATING CONTENT MARKETING STANDARDS RAISES A CRUCIAL QUESTION:
Why shouldn’t the very act of creating thought leadership content also spark new conversations with in-pipeline deals, top prospects, and high-priority customers for revenue expansion? Or serve as the cornerstone for learning and applying voice-of-customer strategies? That’s the power of ABM Podcasting—engaging B2B buyers and customers in meaningful conversations that uncover essential go-to-market insights, support long sales cycles, reinforce your market perspective, build peer-level trust, and dismantle objections that kill deals.
