The Three-Tiered B2B Strategy to Double Revenue

Justin Steinman, Chief Marketing Officer at ModMed, shares why sustainable growth requires three disciplines working together: brand, demand generation, and product marketing. He explains how a unified message increased market awareness, aligned the organization, and strengthened revenue outcomes. Justin also reveals why the best marketers listen closely to customers to create strategies that drive long-term growth.

Justin Steinman, Chief Marketing Officer at ModMed, believes that sustainable revenue growth does not come from a single marketing tactic. It comes from building an integrated system in which brand, demand generation, and product marketing work together toward a single objective. Throughout his career leading marketing organizations across healthcare technology companies, he has seen businesses struggle because these functions operate independently.

At ModMed, he is proving that when all three disciplines work in concert and remain deeply connected to customer needs, companies create stronger awareness, generate better opportunities, and accelerate growth. This conversation explores why the combination of brand, demand generation, and product marketing creates a repeatable framework for long-term B2B success.

“You’ve got to have brand, you’ve got to have demand generation, and you’ve got to have unbelievable product marketing, and it’s really all three of those working together that make an effective marketing organization.” – Justin Steinman

This article is based on an interview with Justin Steinman, Chief Marketing Officer at ModMed

Brand Creates the Air Cover for Growth

Many organizations focus heavily on generating leads while underinvesting in brand awareness. Justin argues that this approach limits long-term growth because buyers increasingly make decisions before engaging with vendors. “Brand is what they say about you when you’re not in the room,” Justin says.

At ModMed, despite being an industry leader with strong customer retention and innovation, awareness levels were lower than expected. This realization led the company to invest significantly in measuring and improving brand awareness.

Justin believes that a brand is what gets companies into more conversations. Buyers are more likely to click on advertisements, attend webinars, and engage with content when they already recognize and trust a company. Brand creates familiarity and confidence before a sales conversation ever begins.

Without brand awareness, organizations struggle to make the initial shortlist. With it, demand generation becomes significantly more effective because marketing efforts are amplified by credibility and recognition.

Demand Generation Turns Awareness Into Revenue

Generating more leads is not the objective. Generating the right leads is. “The trick is to generate qualified demand,” Justin explains. He measures marketing effectiveness through MQL-to-SQL conversion because it reflects whether marketing is attracting the right audience. He believes demand generation should never operate in isolation from the rest of the marketing organization.

Every person on the marketing team is accountable for demand outcomes because every function contributes to performance. Product marketing creates compelling messages, brand shapes perception, and demand generation activates those assets.

This philosophy creates a shared scorecard that aligns the entire organization around growth. Demand generation becomes more than campaign execution. It becomes the mechanism that converts awareness and messaging into measurable business outcomes.

When brand and product marketing are aligned, demand generation produces higher-quality opportunities and drives stronger revenue performance.

Product Marketing Creates Alignment and Differentiation

When Justin joined ModMed, the company had thirty-three different messages in the marketplace. Each sales team wanted customized campaigns, resulting in fragmented positioning and an unclear story. The solution was to simplify. “A good idea with everybody behind it is better than a great, fantastic idea with a few people behind it,” Justin says.

The company unified around a single concept, the AI-powered practice. That message became the foundation for product strategy, sales enablement, customer events, and company communications. The result was organizational alignment. Employees understood the company’s mission, leaders adopted the language, and customers began to associate ModMed with a clear, differentiated vision.

Product marketing became the connective tissue between brand and demand generation. It ensured the company communicated one consistent story to the market and gave every team a shared direction.

Conclusion

The three-tiered strategy that Justin Steinman describes is remarkably simple but incredibly powerful. Brand creates awareness. Demand generation converts awareness into opportunities. Product marketing aligns the organization around a differentiated story.

Underneath all three pillars is a customer-obsessed culture built on listening and deep proximity to customers. As Justin puts it, “The best marketers listen, period.” Organizations that combine these three disciplines while staying close to their customers create stronger brands, better demand, and more sustainable revenue growth.

ELEVATING CONTENT MARKETING STANDARDS RAISES A CRUCIAL QUESTION:
Why shouldn’t the very act of creating thought leadership content also spark new conversations with in-pipeline deals, top prospects, and high-priority customers for revenue expansion? Or serve as the cornerstone for learning and applying voice-of-customer strategies? That’s the power of ABM Podcasting—engaging B2B buyers and customers in meaningful conversations that uncover essential go-to-market insights, support long sales cycles, reinforce your market perspective, build peer-level trust, and dismantle objections that kill deals.
